One side of the story
One side
of the story, I will publish our side of the story this afternoon
Karma: The Little Shark That Could |
The
opinions expressed here are my own and not the official position of
Shark Cannonballs., my kids will likely flip out when they read this.
At the
risk of boring thousands of anglers around the world with yet
another one of my long winded pleas for understanding. I was just
doing what any father would do when his kids are being attacked by
the "big boys". We feel we owe our loyal Shark fans and
the “big boys” an apology, and at least an explanation. I put my
big boy pants on: this is Sharkman fessing up.
For newcomers to the thread and loyal Shark fans following this “sad story” Shark Cannonballs has been publicly humiliated by some of the major sponsors at big money tournaments.
It is true we are not one of the big big boys, and indeed we cannot afford to participate as a major sponsor in the big boy events
It is true, we were supremely castigated by a representative of the big boy events last fall: He told us he was speaking on behalf of the "official sponsors" at a big boy event. He didn't specify which sponsors made the complaint, we can only assume it was a collective decision by the group. They were extremely pissed. They always are.
We were told not to show up at the big boy events because we were guilty of getting "unpaid" advertising: we were welchers. Guilty as charged, I admit it; we did it. Our explanation is, we have been doing exactly the same thing for the last 12 years; nobody said a thing. OK we get it, we will stay away.
One more thing as if that was not enough, we were further humiliated; apparently the "big boys" have evidence we were further taking advantage of them again; we were caught red handed selling our product on site at one of their events Again: Guilty, guilty as charged. At least that is what it looked like. Our explanation, this time, was a number of desperate contestants needed to replace lost Sharks; they pleaded with us. We did not bring any Sharks to sell, the one's we had in the truck belonged to a dealer. He was not happy when a few were missing.
Then, in a final act of public humiliation, we were legally prevented from publicly congratulating our pro staff teams this past weekend on Facebook after they cleaned up in Oswego; it hurt. It really hurt.
In our defence, just so everybody knows, our kids donated, or gave away over 2000 Sharks to events, shows, and pro staff around the world over the past 14 years; I guess they should have bought a house in hindsight for all it's worth. They wanted to be part of the wonderful sport with all these wonderful people.

Oh,I forgot one more thing; guess how much those 2000 sharks weighed? It cost just about the same as the full value of the Sharks to ship them. Our kids spent their hard earned money shipping their product to these events in the hope of being able to participate. They air expressed Sharks to Scandinavia many times. UPS, trucking companies, and finally paid gas and the time to drive Sharks to our pro staff teams everywhere; it cost a fortune to do that; sharks are heavy. Do the math.
All this
got us nowhere, now we are publicly shamed, humiliated, and finally
banned; OK I think everybody will agree to these egregious
claims; we did it, I will take responsibility. I am truly sorry for
the harm we have caused, and I promise we will never do it again.
Sharkman
I am
working on a post script to the story; stay tuned.
