Are journalists being honest reporting on fishing equipment: Not.

Just one more issues to clear the air, now that we know who puts up the real money for the derbies; the teams. Not the "big boys" as they would have you believe.  One more thing big companies try to do is control the message in mainstream media.  Truth in journalism and how it relates to big money.  I have not raised this issue for about 10 years, integrity in reporting. Truth in advertising went out the window years ago;we all know fishermen tell the truth. We are long overdue on this one, especially considering the hundred of millions of dollars spent on fishing equipment every year.  In that regard consumers have always relied on the integrity of the magazines, TV shows and the writer's for the straight goods, what works, what doesn't. Basically, bullshit baffles brains; BBB.

With all this money hanging in the balance, the integrity of these so called self proclaimed experts comes into play. I respect most of them, but there is a conspicuous aspect missing in their reporting for the last 14 years especially about the most important question of all.  What product is the most important product in terms of attracting fish.  I am calling them on it here and now. is it the 4 big Sharks ripping up the lake or the pretty little lure following in it's wake? There is always a simple way to find out just how well the lure will attract fish from far off; run it two hundred feet behind the ball. Same  thing with a flasher fly combo, try running  them behind something other than a Shark, and let us know how it works out over the course of a summer.  Not just after one or two good trips. We all know they work well; they just work better behind a Shark.

Something has got to give here, both options can't be right.  The reporters are either ignorant of the role Shark Cannonballs play in the industry, or they have become the mouth piece of big business or paid advertisers.  If what I am implying is true, it would mean a lot of mainstream flashy products have been making claims about their ability to attract fish, when all along it was really the Sharks doing the heavy lifting. Are they are intentionally suppressing small companies like Shark?  We will let you decide.

For some reason, these so called experts still insist on only reporting type of lure as the all encompassing reason for catching the winning fish and winning the big prize.  For the most part it is some variation of a green and yellow monkey puke with pickles on the side as the main reason for success.  Just hearing a code word over the radio during a tournament about what is hot,  can cause thousands of sunbaked crazed out anglers with a bad case of derby fever to scurry to their nearest tackle shop and load up on these magic lures thinking somehow it will make a difference.   When they know in their hearts they are just throwing more  money in the lake. We all do it, and we always will.

Especially when angler's are in this vulnerable state, and considering the vast sums of money involved, the journalist has a clear duty to report the truth.  At the end of the day, all the little lure can  possibly do is to hook the fish when it is close by. In no way is it ever going to compete with the ability of a Shark to call in the fish from 100 feet away in the dark muddy waters of lake Ontario.  It takes sound to do that; a special kind of sound, perfectly tuned sound, a perfectly tuned instrument to generate that sound.  That is what a Shark Cannonball is.  We have perfected that sound, and we have at least 40,000 loyal fans that own Sharks that will back us up on that claim. It took 14 years, we will stake our reputation that Sharks work better than lures to attract fish.

The only sound I know of that will make a salmon spend calories and travel a long distance, is the sound of bait fish.  We can only conclude by our immense success that Shark Cannonballs must sound like a school of bait fish.  We have proved this many times in contests where one group used Sharks and the other group used regular cannonballs.  The group that used Sharks won more tournaments, more times than anybody else, and lived happily ever after, Just ask Screamer, Cold Steel, Hook N Up, Team Extreme, the A Team and about 100 other pro teams that I don’t have the time to include in this Op Ed.

That is just the tournament guys.  Then we have tens of thousands of charter captains and weekend warriors that have been using Sharks for 14 years.  How is it possible that our honest journalists could possibly miss the massive volume of truth, unless of course, it was their intention to do so in the first place. Paid by big business buying ads to do that.   I am asking my readers, the real victims of this scam to call out these purveyors of truth and ask them Whats The .......is Up with that eh!.

Here is an anomaly for you in this battle of wills, on one hand Shark Cannonballs has never been able to crack the glass ceiling of the upper echelons of the who’s who of the fishing industry. The royalty, the aristocrats.  Us paupers have never even been able to get the attention of these fishing deities despite our glowing credentials.

On the other side of this issue we have a prince among the legendary anglers and TV personalities of our day, a man among men, Darryl Chronzy, our guardian angel.  Darryl took it upon himself at his own expense to single handedly do what mainstream media refused to do; he acknowledged Shark Cannonballs for the role that we play in the industry.  He pumped it on his show 'Going Fishing  for many years.  It would have cost a fortune I cant even imagine what it would have cost.  We could not afford to pay that kind of money then and we still can't today.  He did it for the right reason, he saw we had a good product, and he told his viewing audience the truth. We will never forget that. Thank you Darryl.

Recently Steve Hardcastle of Fishmasters went on the Charlie Wray Show and we got some respect, Thank you Steve, thank you Charlie.  Troy Creasy and Dave Mull are exempt from this rebuke as they have said many kind things about us in the past.  If I missed any other kind soul who has helped us I am sorry. It is those other guys that I am calling on this issue. We have about 40,000 loyal anglers that would agree with Darryl and the boys, they would not leave port without their Sharks.  Who knows how many more  anglers would use Sharks if they could get the straight goods from the experts.

From my point of view this is the most egregious violation  of the journalistic code of ethics, to tell the truth.  All the consumer wants is to take his family out fishing and stand some chance of catching a spectacular silver salmon.  That is the job of the journalist right there, to supply that man with his best options.

The question is, did they do it, I think not.  How many times have our consumers been led down the garden path as they are denied this simple courtesy by a bunch of greedy people who want to corner the market and refuse to let the truth go out about what really works.

How have they managed to pull it off.  They didn’t say anything.  It is like we don't exist.  That's why I have 26,000 anglers around the world that read stories in the Sharkman Blog about the best tournament anglers, charter captains, and weekend warriors to balance the terms of engagement. If this was any indicator of how we can expect to be treated by the fishy deities, it will be another 14 years before they acknowledge our spoons and flashers; oh by the way, they also have the same facets.  The one's everybody knows that really attracts the fish.  It's probably just my imagination working overtime. Looking forward to your comments.  Sharkman

So whats up with that eh!
