Poly Chrome Sharks: Time To Clear The Air
Let me clarify a few misconceptions and rumors that are floating around the pristine waters of Scandinavia regarding Poly Chrome Sharks: there is nothing wrong with them. They work exactly as well as real chrome, they are just as durable, and they are suppose to cost a lot less than chrome plated Sharks!
The only problems is when they are being misrepresented as chrome plated Sharks and people charge far too much money for them. Then of course there are those opportunistic individuals who never miss an opportunity to generate negative publicity about Sharks.
For the record, our Black Faceted Sharks have outsold real chrome Sharks in the USA for the past five years by a ratio of 9:1. They are coated with the same polyester plastic that is used on Polychrome Sharks. It is the same material used on propane cylinders on your barbeque tanks and NFL football helmets. In fact the Poly Chrome Sharks have two layers of baked on polyester; the first coat is white to make the chrome coat look brighter. Therefore they are twice as durable as the Black Faceted Sharks; we have sold thousands of Black Sharks and have never had one single complaint. Please check this statement with every Shark dealer in New York State.
The only problem with the Sharks has always been the cost; they are expensive to manufacture as they are hand made and they are very expensive to transport. We elected to make Polychrome Sharks (powder coated) as a means of reducing the cost to fishermen. We sold them to our agent at the time in Norway for $47 USD each. Add the shipping cost and 28% VAT = $65USD. Keep in mind the agent recovers the VAT from the government; therefore anything above $52USD is clear profit.
We have heard people are very upset with our company and our product; but it is not because there is anything wrong or substandard with the product; it is because the product has been misrepresented as having the original chrome plated finish and because people have been charged far too much money. In both cases, this is something that must be addressed to the former agent for Shark Cannonballs.
Regarding the rumors of fake Sharks circulating in Scandinavia: It was brought to our attention there were emails posted on the internet between two individuals apparently in the process of making counterfeit Sharks. Apparently, one of the individuals had the same name as our previous agent; we are confident this must be an unfortunate coincidence. The emails have been deleted from the internet. In any case, we wish them the best of luck as they will never be successful in duplicating the Shark. Besides the obvious poor craftsmanship that has surfaced in some of the attempts over the years; look closely at the detail in the word Shark stamped into the tail. The stamp was made with an original custom designed font, one of a kind. It has been our experience fishermen in the trolling community around the world are honest and decent people, and they would never tolerate using pirated products.
Best Regards
