This is my spot bear.

Image
This is a picture of my son Andrew, no picture of the bear, but the story bears telling. Just got off the phone with Andrew, he loves to pull over and do a little river fishing on his travels. There he was sitting on the bank when he looks over, and there is a big black bear 6 feet away. Mr. Cool stands up, the bear stands up. It's a stand off. No bear spray either. Apparently Andrew tells the bear:"this is my spot buddy, I was here first". It probably was the bear's secret spot as well. They just stood there calmly talking to each other, bearly blinking, for about three minutes. The bear finally took the hint, and slowly walked away. Andrew was teaching outdoor courses as a Y camp director for years. Finally got to put it to good use. I'll have to remember that: This is my spot bear.

Black water down 300 ft.

Image
http://youtu.be/uunA-I2jvWQ This is the other end of the equation, the previous animations depict a graphic representation of the physics involved in a faceted Shark generating a sound wave capable of travelling great distances underwater.  At around 200 ft down, it is jet black, no light; only sound.  This is how these amazing creatures have survived for millions of years.  Let's do our bit to make sure they have millions more. Shark Cannonballs    If anybody is wondering exactly how the lateral line on a fish works, this is a pretty good representation. We checked with a number of fish biologist all over the world, for accuracy, used just a little bit of artistic licence (my son) but he nailed it. A low frequency infra sound wave (the kind generated by the air bladder on a bait fish) can literally travel for miles. This is the ultra high tech sensory system of a king salmon. Basically it explains how and why king salmon make a bee line for a faceted Shark.

What's Up Doc? Problems in our healthcare system

Image
http://youtu.be/LvW0BWfwdKU Doctor:  You bumped my script by 400%.  What's up with that? Some of you may have noticed I was a little grumpy last week, I stand by everything I said in that regard. I have much bigger fish to fry. Many of you know I am taking an active role in exposing the outrageous corruption in our healthcare system. I am doing it for myself and my family, however there are thousands of Canadians every year unable to speak for themselves as a result of a brain injury suffered in a car accident or war; I am speaking up for them. I am losing my ability to type, but I am still able to speak up. You got it, I am going to video. This is the first clip, there is more to come. check out my blogs, I am not just complaining, I have some suggestions that could help a lot of folks in the same boat.   http://youtu.be/LvW0BWfwdKU I have posted a number of horror stories regarding my experiences with the system. We should start paying attention as it is right out of

Magic Buzz

Image
Magic buzz! Remember this? We put it out 12 years ago. The smart money has been winning on Sharks ever since. Magic buzz? Absolutely. The downrigger cable is just another long guitar string. The length you put out is critical to resonating the vibe the kings are listening for; basic physics. Remember the lateral line; we all hear the that high pitch sound off the cables; so do the fish. Your set up is really an old fashion wash basin base guitar with a really long string. Now think about the vibe going out through the anchor point. That's how the pro's keep winning the big bucks, year after year after year. We have been studying the relationship between the vibe and the behavior of the fish below for 14 years. We are improving the facet design every year; we are getting better at it. We are in communication with oceanographic sonic people for information about sonic signatures. We will let you know once we have perfected it. As you can see from our impressive result

Are journalists being honest reporting on fishing equipment: Not.

Just one more issues to clear the air, now that we know who puts up the real money for the derbies; the teams. Not the "big boys" as they would have you believe.  One more thing big companies try to do is control the message in mainstream media.  Truth in journalism and how it relates to big money.  I have not raised this issue for about 10 years, integrity in reporting. Truth in advertising went out the window years ago;we all know fishermen tell the truth. We are long overdue on this one, especially considering the hundred of millions of dollars spent on fishing equipment every year.  In that regard consumers have always relied on the integrity of the magazines, TV shows and the writer's for the straight goods, what works, what doesn't. Basically, bullshit baffles brains; BBB. With all this money hanging in the balance, the integrity of these so called self proclaimed experts comes into play. I respect most of them, but there is a conspicuous aspect missing in t

Karma: The Little Shark That Could

Karma: The Little Shark That Could PS Our side of the story Let me be clear: This is by no means a reflections on our American counterparts hosting events in New York. They are a class act all the way, they take pride in staging their events, and we know they are honorable and decent people. This is about a few of the sponsors, the same one's we have in Canada We took our lumps, it was embarrassing as a father and as a member of the Shark Team. So we tried to fix things in the spring event this year in St. Catherines, the King of the pond or something. I can't remember a lot of things these days. Anyway we thought we would attempt make up this travesty and surprise the event coordinators and deliver a dozen Sharks to their spring tournament; as a peace offering. We called the marina in St. Catherine's only to find out the event had been moved to a parking lot somewhere far, far away from the event. We asked if they had directions; they replied in a snappy tone, th

One side of the story

Image
One side of the story, I will publish our side of the story this afternoon Karma: The Little Shark That Could The opinions expressed here are my own and not the official position of Shark Cannonballs., my kids will likely flip out when they read this. At the risk of boring thousands of anglers around the world with yet another one of my long winded pleas for understanding. I was just doing what any father would do when his kids are being attacked by the "big boys". We feel we owe our loyal Shark fans and the “big boys” an apology, and at least an explanation. I put my big boy pants on: this is Sharkman fessing up. For newcomers to the thread and loyal Shark fans following this “sad story” Shark Cannonballs has been publicly humiliated by some of the major sponsors at big money tournaments. It is true we are not one of the big big boys, and indeed we cannot afford to participate as a major sponsor in the big boy events It is true, we were supremely castigated

Shark Week Is Coming: Bring Your Big Stick

Image
Poor old Shark, boo hoo, couldn't afford to pony up a few weights to come to the big boy show; too bad. All is fair in love and war and business. We get it; it's called business as usual and we have been doing it for 14 years. Nothing new about “big” companies screwing over little companies, it's been happening since the beginning of time. Sometimes however, the little company just won't stay down; they grow up, and they grow some teeth. Everybody knows we used to be in just about every salmon shop in the business: so what really happened? Did everybody decide one fine day they didn't like Shark weights anymore? That's not it, the people just did an end run around the bully blockade and bought directly from the little company that could. Turn's out, the people really couldn't give a rat's ass about the bullshit, and the personalities of the fighting companies; they just want their Sharks. Fortunately, that is changing; more and more tackle sh

It hits like a stick of dynamite

The Muskie is the top Apex predator in our lakes and rivers in North America, it is not afraid of anything; least of all you and your boat.  When it decides it wants something, it will let you know; Captain Bob discovered muskies have a fatal attraction to the sound of a faceted Shark Cannonball.  Captain Bob Walters refers to this as the chaos theory, he will drop a pair of Sharks down into the prop wash running a short lead; the hunt is on.  The five foot monster will rip the rod right out of your hands as guests aboard Water Wolf Charters find out in a hurry; "it hits like a stick of dynamite when it goes off", so you better beware.  When he is not hunting these thunder bolts, Bob is also one of the top salmon fishermen on the Great Lakes.  Bob is also, one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, he has been a friend to us. Captain Bob, thanks for taking us along on your fishing trips and thanks for including us in your moment of international glory. Best Regards Sh

Captain Bob Walters Law of Chaos: World Record Holder Muskie

Image
Captain Bob Walters, Oswego New York, Waterwolf Charters, is the official world record holder for the largest Muskie ever caught.  Captain Bob invented the "Chaos Theory" as it applies to muskie fishing.  He drops a pair of Chrome Sharks into the prop wash with a killer muskie lure a short distance behind.  Bob describes the hit like a stick of dynamite tearing the rod out of your hands. It is no longer a theory, we now call it the Captain Bob Walters Muskie Chaos Law.  Captain Bob has been a member of the Shark Cannonball Pro Staff Team  for many years, he has proven many times over, Sharks work as well on muskie as they do salmon. Thanks a Million Commander Bob, for taking us along on your fishing trip. The Shark Crew
